STOCKTON, San Joaquin County — November 4, 2026. A candidate who had withdrawn from the Stockton City Council District 5 campaign after the deadline remained ahead in unofficial ballot returns after midnight. In a 12:30 a.m. November 4 update, Stocktonia reported Desiree Lynch at 53.1% of the reported vote, compared with 46.9% for incumbent Brando Villapudua.
Why a withdrawn candidate remained on the ballot
According to reporting by Stocktonia and CBS Sacramento, Lynch withdrew after the legal ballot deadline, so her name remained listed for voters. Prosecutors have filed charges alleging election-related violations; those are allegations, not a conviction. Her vote share is reported as an election result rather than an endorsement or conclusion about the case.
Two other Stockton council races
In District 1, incumbent Michele Padilla led Tamica Small 58.9% to 41.1%. In District 3, incumbent Michael Blower led Jessica Toccoli 61.3% to 38.7%, in the same reported 12:30 a.m. snapshot. These are three separate district elections; one district’s voters do not choose the council member of another district.
Why voters should not confuse the result with eligibility rulings
The question of which candidate receives the most counted votes is different from any legal dispute involving a person’s eligibility or past campaign activity. The applicable election law and the final county canvass will determine the result; this publication cannot infer an administrative outcome from the lead alone.
